You know how most buildings have more than one set of women’s and men’s rooms? How hard would it be to take one of those extra bathrooms and turn it into an unsexed one?
I think the main issue is that people just don’t like to see anything unsexed. It really bothers them. Think about it… someone goes into a store and sees a watch they love. It’s not placed with the “men’s watches” or “women’s watches” (as if there were such things). The first thing most people would ask, before the price or anything else about the watch, is is this a men’s or women’s watch? At some point it doesn’t matter anymore that they love the watch. They need to know who is supposed to wear it.
Yes, I can relate anything to shopping.
Eminism.org has another great bathroom idea:
Started in late 1999, this ongoing campaign posts the “alternative” bathroom signs all over the town. Signs say “MEN” with the symbol of a person dressed in skirt, or “WOMEN” with the symbol of a person in pants. At the bottom of the sign is the phrase “fuck your gender.”
