I’d like to know why her medical record listed her sexual preference. Is that something that doctors really needed to know to treat her? And how was that particular bit of information obtained? I’m pretty sure I’ve never been asked who I choose to have sex with by any medical professsional because as bad as my memory is, I would have remembered the anger that such a question evokes.
I have, many times. It goes a little something like this:
When was your last period?…
What form of birth control do you use?
none
You’re not sexually active? (sometimes that’s not a question)
I didn’t say that.
Do you sleep with men? Are you gay?…
When was your last period?
I don’t have them any more. (I don’t have them any less, either.)
What form of birth control do you use?

You’re not sexually active?

Do you sleep with men?
I usually just sleep with my teddy bear. Why do you want to know?
Are you gay?
I’m not depressed, if that’s what you mean. And if that’s not what you mean, why do you want to know?
