WHEN SHE IS making pottery, Peggy Loudon often finds herself juggling a thousand different ideas and projects in her head. Sometimes, she even has to interrupt her clay work to reach for a pencil.

“I write poetry,” the 53-year-old lesbian says. “While I’m throwing, I often have to stop to get the words down on paper.”
