Ontario Catholic Bishop Bans Catholic Paper For it’s View on Homosexuality
Pebroke, Ontario, Apr. 12 (LifesiteNews.com/CWN) – PEMBROKE, Ontario, April 11, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Bishop Richard Smith of Pembroke, Ontario, the current President of the Ontario Conference of Catholic Bishops, has banned the Catholic New Times newspaper from parishes in his diocese. “I am hereby directing any parish that facilitates distribution of this newspaper to cease doing so immediately,” wrote Bishop Smith in a letter to all pastors.
The February edition of the Catholic New Times “editorial comment contains views which are clearly at odds with the teaching of the church on faith and morals,” Bishop Smith said. “In my judgment, it is not appropriate to have copies of this newspaper made available through our parishes, as this could be interpreted as diocesan approbation of its views.”
In its February edition, the Catholic New Times said, “The Church’s teaching on homosexuality seems to us out of touch with growing scientific evidence on the nature of homosexuality itself.” The editorial added, “Same-sex, loving and committed relationships and the sexual expression thereof can be holy and may even be sacramental.”
This seems to be a big problem. Deciding what the “rules” are, that is. I still haven’t gotten an answer to what I call the Poultry Problem.
The Poultry Problem:
Rule: No eating meat on Fridays during Lent.
Problem: Is poultry meat? ( I asked this at CCD when I was little and a nun told me not to question things)
There is no answer. The most popular answer is I don’t know. And if you ask people who don’t eat poultry on Fridays during Lent why they don’t, they say just in case. In case what?
Queers… Chickens… Whatever… Make up your mind.
