Hate Crime Murderers to be Released
On July 4, 1991 a gang of ten teenaged men set out looking for gays to attack.
They spotted three gay men leaving a gay club in the Montrose area [of Houston] and began beating them. Two of the victims escaped with only minor injuries, but Paul Broussard, a 27 year old bank employee, was not so lucky.
Broussard suffered a broken rib, crushed testicles and two stab wounds in the chest and stomach. He died as a result of the stabbings.
Jaime Aguirre and Javier Aguirre, both sentenced to 15 years in prison for the murder of Paul Broussard, are expected to be released from prison as early as next week. Another of Broussard’s murderers, Leandro Ramirez, will be be paroled in March.
What’s very interesting is that Ray Hill, a Houston gay activist who pushed very hard for the prosecution of Paul Broussard’s assailants is now trying to keep the Aguirres – who are Mexican nationals – from being deported. More info can be found on the Houston Chronicle website at
