Deck the Halls with Books
Books I’ve purchased as holiday gifts for others so far:
Tipping the Velvet: A Novel
Sex Changes: The Politics of Transgenderism
Read My Lips: Sexual Subversion and the End of Gender
The Whole Lesbian Sex Book: A Passionate Guide for All of Us
In A Queer Time And Place: Transgender Bodies, Subcultural Lives
On Our Backs Guide to Lesbian Sex
The Trouble With Normal: Sex, Politics, and the Ethics of Queer Life
I adored _Tipping the Velvet_. Great reading. I saw it on BBC — the television or movie version. It stayed true to the narrative. I thought the lead was cast well, as was the character of Diana (the actress who played “Duckface” in _Three (or Four) Weddings and a Funeral_). The actress Jodhi Whatsherface always takes on these period pieces beautifully. I loved her in _The Last of the Mohicans_ and especially in a movie most folks haven’t heard of called _Sister, My Sister_, which was loosely based on Genet’s play, _The Maids_. Anyhow, the BBC version lacked much of the rawness and sensuality that was present in the book. Not a bad attempt though.
Maria, you have!? You’re the only other person I know of who has seen it! I shoulda known.
I’ve seen “Sister, My Sister” a few times. :)
great, now all I can think about is that scene with the chair in Diana’s house. baseball, baseball, baseball.
In other lands, I was sorely disappointed with The Whole Lesbian Sex Book. She did include a GOOD gender section though. I guess I like more creativity when it comes to discussing sex.
Of course I’ve seen it. Just look at the cover. How can you not watch that?
Holy crap!
