CBS5.com reports the Supreme Court has ruled colleges that accept federal aid, totalling $35 billion a year, must allow military recruiters on campus regardless of whether the college bans anti-gay discrimination (including “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”) or not.

Military opponents say today’s court decision even goes beyond what the government had asked for. ‘The courts may have given Congress the green light to pass laws that would require universities and high schools, even, to let recruiters on campus even when federal funds aren’t involved,” said Robertson.

In court, the Bush administration argued that, because of 9/11 and the war in Iraq, the military needs to do what it can to get more recruits.

Meantime, other lawsuits are pending that challenge the military’s policy on discharging gays.
