Submissions Deadline Extended to 11/1
Today was to be the deadline for submissions for Queer: Four Decades After Stonewall, but I have made the decision to extend this deadline.
First, I want to say that I’ve received many great pieces. In fact, I’ve received so many excellent erotica submissions that I have discussed an erotica anthology with Merge Press and have the go ahead to start getting one together!
But one book at a time…
I’d like to see the range of submissions for Queer: Four Decades After Stonewall open up. I still really want more creative non-fiction pieces and I’m hoping there is a market out there for queer non-fiction writing. I’ve got a vision for this book, and I’ve become quite stubborn about it (nothing shocking there).
I’d love to see more personal stories on present day queer life from voices that often go unheard, even in the gay community; stories that delve into topics that were practically non-existent four decades ago. I’d love a book that highlights, for example:
- The voice of a femme who questions what it means to marry her trans-guy boyfriend knowing marriage wouldn’t be an option if her and her butch lesbian ex-girlfriend were still together.
- The voice of a male-to-female transsexual lesbian in love with a biological woman and how their life together redefines what means to be a lesbian couple.
- The voice of a gay man in Massachusetts who struggles with asking his boyfriend to marry him because it makes him feel straight.
- The voice of any queer who doesn’t want marriage.
- The voice of gay religious leaders providing a place to turn for the many gay men and women who have not given up on their religion despite the greatest efforts of those who label them an abomination.
I’m also looking for more fiction outside of the erotica arena.
I know this stuff is out there! I know there’s more to your lives than sex- like it or not. ;)
So please keep the great submissions rolling in! I’m really starting to love checking my inbox. :)
*All registered users of this site and authors who have submitted pieces for consideration will be receiving an email within the next few days with this updated info. Please know that all pieces will continue to be considered until November 1.
Maria, I posted this announcement on Transcending Gender and attempted a trackback, which I still can’t accomplish because the URL refuses to reveal itself. Maybe it’s shy or going through a break-up? Maybe I’ve managed to kill off even more brain cells in my 30s?
Anyhow, I think this is a great idea. Your examples really helped. I can’t wait to get more details on the erotica anthology.
All of it is really exciting – I’m glad to see everything developing for you.
The URL got a bad perm and is in hiding – how 80s is that? I think it might live in Jersey.
