Jeff Gannon asks an interesting question in Pro-choice to abort gays? : Would gay pro-choicers remain pro-choice if we ever knew enough about a genetic predisposition to homosexual behavior for parents to have the option to terminate a pregnancy because there was a strong chance their child would be gay?

Isolation of a “gay gene” might cause a seismic shift in support for abortion among gay people. At present, gay men and lesbians line up strongly behind a woman’s right to an abortion, albeit under a less sinister banner of “freedom of choice.”

How might that position change if parents were able to decide to terminate a pregnancy because of the presence of a genetic predisposition to homosexual behavior?

I’m a woman before I’m a queer, and my pro-choice position on abortion would remain the same even if it meant there were those who would turn to it to abort gay children. Do I ever see this happening? No. How could the Jesus freaks “kill” an unborn child when they could just send him or her off to an ex-gay program later on in life?
