“We choose not to work for homosexuals”
I meant to post about this post over at The Consumerist last week and the link to it got lost in a sea of emails. But is it ever really too late for this stuff?
I don’t think the below email from Garden Guy, Inc., a Houston landscape design company, needs further explanation from me.
I am appreciative of your time on the phone today and glad you contacted us. I need to tell you that we cannot meet with you because we choose not to work for homosexuals.
Best of luck in finding someone else to fill your landscaping needs.
All my best,
Sabrina

The Consumerist also posted about the support Todd and Sabrina Farber received from The Houston Chronicle.
Houston Chronicle’s Rick Casey:
Were I posting, I would commend the Farbers for standing by their principles in an age where money trumps all.
They might, however, consider climbing up one more rung on the moral ladder.
They should refuse to do business with all sinners.
You can find Maria on MySpace here and read her current call for essays on femme identity here. Pick up Queer Shorts, her new anthology, at MergePress.com.
Lest that quote of Rick Casey’s be taken out of context (and it is), the complete quote basically said that they should refuse to business with all sinners – like liars, cheats, theives, adulterers, etc. In a word, they should refuse to do business with everybody. Mr. Casey thought they were stupid for their actions.
Jami, I just added the the following to the one line ( “They should refuse to do business with all sinners.” ) that was alone in my original post.
“Were I posting, I would commend the Farbers for standing by their principles in an age where money trumps all.
They might, however, consider climbing up one more rung on the moral ladder.”
Hopefully that gives the words more context.
Maybe he *is* being sarcastic. It wasn’t clear to me, but what do I know…
For some people men sticking their penises into each others bottoms turn some people off. If that doesn`t float there boat why should they have to go do landscaping for people who do things they do not like. I suppose they should have to perform landscaping for pedophiles based upon your logic.
More power to them. If they don’t want to deal with queers – or anyone else for that matter – they have the right to refuse.
The First Amendment says we have freedom to associate. As I understand it, it means we can choose to associate, or choose NOT to associate, with whomever we please.
Some folks choose not to associate with fags. That is their right.

I love sanctimonious posturing! Let’s hope some folks offer to do business and then blow them off because “we don’t hire Christianist hypocrites!”
