Lesley Stahl Reports on the Nature vs Nurture Debate on Tomorrow’s _60 Minutes_
I sure hope she doesn’t intend to further spread this information:
“Research shows that most children with extreme tendencies toward gender nonconformity grow up to be gay. ”
“Studies suggest the more older brothers a boy has, the greater chance he will be gay. ”
I know the only way things are going to be better, legally, culturally, etc, for LGBT folks is if the rest of society gets interested, but every time I see something like this, I get nervous because they NEVER do it “right”. The other irritating thing is how many queers will line up to confirm each and every presumption, “I knew I was gay because I fainted when Judy Garland died,” “I knew I was lesbian because I loved playing with trucks!” UGH, NO!
That has to be one of the most stupid comments I’ve heard or read in quite a while. Ridiculous. Lesley Stahl is a fool – more so because she seems to think she acts from intelligence and knowledge when her worldview is coloured by simple, old-fashioned ugly prejudice. Nature, nurture… WHEN will they apply the same distorting scrutinising lens to heterosexuality, which is always assumed and never chosen?
Btw, I’m wondering if it’s possible, if you’re having site registration, to automatically have your details input when you’re writing a comment? It seems a protracted process to me to have to sign in and then input your info to leave a comment? I know some sites offer in the comments section to save your details. That would be a lot easier. Is that possible here? x
I watched the program and it just annoyed me. Not only did it report on stereotypes and present them as science (it is true that gay people actually move differently than straights) but they (especially Baily (AGAIN)) completely erased trans identity. The little boy who wishes he were a girl was presented as gay and not as trans. This is so very frustrating.
It sounds as if I should be glad I was busy and missed it; probably saved my blood pressure.
